Brief Introduction of color





Hue - Color & Hue are synonyms that are often used interchangeably. Hue is attribute by which one color is distinguished from another. The color in its purest form, with no black,grey, or white added (without tint / shade). A hue is an element of the color wheel.


Neutral - Black, white, and gray lack hue are considered neutrals.


Value / Luminance - is the lightest or darkness of a surface color. A measure of the amount of light reflected from a hue. Those hues with a high content of white have a higher luminance or value.



Saturation / Purity - is essentially the amount of pigment in a color & is defined as the strength or vividness of a hue. The degree of purity of a hue. The amount of hue in proportion to the neutral gray of the same lightness, that is the intensity of color.




Shade - occurs when a pure color is mixed with gray or black.



Tint - occurs when a pure color is mixed with white.
